Meet Tara Morris: Pueblo, Colorado REALTOR® Helping Buyers Find Their Way Home

For Tara Morris, real estate is about much more than buying and selling houses. It’s about people, their stories, and helping them reach a goal that may have once felt out of reach.

Tara is a REALTOR® serving Pueblo, Pueblo West, Colorado Springs, and communities throughout Southern Colorado. As part of CORE Home Team, she especially enjoys helping first-time home buyers, VA buyers, and clients who may need a little extra patience and guidance throughout the process.

From People Person to Pueblo REALTOR®

Becoming a real estate agent was something Tara’s friend and now team lead, Jesse, had encouraged her to consider for years.

“I’ve always been a people person, and Jesse had been saying for a few years that I should be an agent,” Tara says. “I finally decided to proceed with becoming one.”

That ability to connect with people has become one of her greatest strengths as an agent.

“I’m pretty easy to get along with. I’m always for my clients, and I make friendships for life.”

For Tara, those relationships don’t necessarily end when the closing documents are signed.

Understanding That Homeownership Can Feel Out of Reach

One thing that makes Tara different is her ability to relate to clients who may not feel like the traditional home buyer.

“I’ve lived a hard life and understand what it means to not have a whole lot,” she says.

That experience has made working with lower-income buyers particularly meaningful to her. She understands that purchasing a home can seem intimidating or even impossible when finances are tight, and she is willing to work hard alongside her clients as they try to reach that goal.

“I’ll work hard to help you no matter what. I’m also very patient.”

Tara believes buyers shouldn’t feel pressured into purchasing a home simply because it is available.

Her advice to buyers today is simple:

“Don’t settle for something if you aren’t happy with it.”

Helping VA and First-Time Home Buyers in Southern Colorado

Tara works with buyers and sellers throughout Southern Colorado, with particular experience helping:

  • First-time home buyers

  • VA buyers

  • Buyers considering VA assumable mortgages

  • Buyers searching for affordable homeownership opportunities

  • Clients purchasing older homes

  • Buyers who need additional education and patience throughout the process

She frequently serves clients in Pueblo, Pueblo West, Colorado Springs, Fowler, La Junta, Cañon City, Colorado City, and Walsenburg, along with other Southern Colorado communities.

She also finds that many of the questions she receives aren't actually about the house itself.

“A lot of the questions I get are lending questions,” Tara says.

That makes sense, especially for first-time buyers who are trying to understand not only which home to buy, but how financing, qualification, monthly payments, VA loans, and other pieces of the transaction work together.

A VA Assumable Loan That Turned Clients Into Family

One transaction in particular represents exactly why Tara loves what she does.

Tara originally met a couple at the Colorado State Fair. They clicked, but nothing immediately came from the conversation. Later, she happened to meet them again at an open house.

“We talked about how it was meant to be,” she remembers.

Tara began showing them homes and, more importantly, listening carefully to what each of them wanted.

Sometimes the husband would send Tara a listing and she already knew his wife probably wouldn’t like it. They would go see it anyway.

And usually, Tara was right.

Over the next six to eight months, Tara continued helping them search.

There were difficult moments when it seemed like they might never find the right house. During that time, Tara became close with the couple and truly got to know them.

They also got to know Tara.

While Tara was dealing with several incredibly difficult personal losses, the couple stood by her. Other people suggested that they find another real estate agent, but they refused.

Before Tara, they had already worked with four agents.

“They said I looked at so many things that the other agents NEVER did,” Tara says.

Then they found a listing with pictures that didn't necessarily show everything the property had to offer.

In person, they fell in love.

The home had the main-floor kitchen the wife wanted because she is a baker. It had a three-car garage, a corner lot, and a combination of grass and rock landscaping. Even the four-level layout, something that had previously been a big “no,” suddenly worked.

It checked so many of their boxes.

Then Tara saved one particularly exciting detail for the end.

The home had a VA assumable mortgage with a 2.25% interest rate.

They submitted an offer and ultimately closed on the home.

But the relationship didn't end there.

“They became family,” Tara says. “Their story will always stick with me.”

For Tara, the experience reinforced the importance of actually listening to clients rather than simply opening doors.

Why Tara Loves Pueblo, Colorado

Tara lives in Pueblo and loves the city's combination of small-town familiarity and larger-city amenities.

“Pueblo is where I live because it’s a big/small town,” she says. “Going downtown, there are so many different things to do and it’s not packed.”

She points to local favorites and events like the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk of Pueblo, the boat rides, Neon Alley, the Colorado State Fair, and the annual Chile & Frijoles Festival as just a few things that make Pueblo special.

Another thing Tara loves about Pueblo real estate?

The houses themselves.

“Pueblo has A LOT of homes from 1900,” she says.

Older homes are actually among her favorite properties to work with. They offer character, history, and details that can be difficult to replicate in newer construction.

More Than a REALTOR®

There is a lot more to Tara than real estate.

She is a mother of two boys who keep her on her toes and is currently attending college to earn her business management degree.

She also has a degree that may surprise some of her real estate clients: automotive technology.

And she still works on cars.

Tara and her husband started their own business, Morris Auto and Diesel LLC, giving her firsthand experience with entrepreneurship and running a family business.

When she isn't working, studying, parenting, or selling real estate, Tara enjoys reading and has even started writing her own book. She loves to draw and spends as much time as she can fishing with her father.

“We are a very outgoing family,” she says. “Hopefully, the next few years will have some memorable travels now that the kids are getting older.”

The Lesson Tara Carries With Her

Like most agents, Tara has experienced both rewarding and difficult transactions.

One lesson has stuck with her:

“Don’t let one bad client ruin all the good you have done for people.”

She also laughs about something she wishes she had understood before getting into the business: the fees involved and the fact that being a REALTOR® isn't exactly a nine-to-five job.

“Even if you’re on vacation, you always work. You never have a day off as an agent.”

But the relationships make it worthwhile.

Tara’s favorite part of helping someone buy or sell a home is simply getting to know them.

“Everyone has a different story to tell, and I’m glad to get to know my clients so well.”
